Arsenal provide Leno injury update/ fears Martinelli could miss rest of season
Arsenal’s nightmare restart
Prior to the Premier League’s postponement back in March, Arsenal were actually in decent form.
The arrival of Mikel Arteta to the Emirates looked to provide some form of stability for a club previously floundering under Unai Emery.
However, since the campaign restarted last week, the Gunners have had an absolute nightmare.
Arsenal’s first game back saw them put to the sword by Arteta’s former employers, Manchester City, by three goals to nil.
Both Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari were injured inside 25 minutes of that clash with the latter’s replacement, David Luiz, putting on a calamitous display that largely resulted in Arsenal losing that match.
The north Londoner’s following tie took place on Saturday vs relegation-battling Brighton.
And this game was also filled with woe from a Gunner’s perspective.
Bernd Leno, Arsenal’s No.1 and arguably one of their players of the season, had to be withdrawn inside the first half after landing awkwardly.
This was followed by Arsenal blowing a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 vs the Seagulls.
Leno, Martinelli & Mari updates
Now, as mentioned above, Arsenal have now moved to provide injury updates on a number of the aforementioned stars.
Bernd Leno is expected to be sidelined for the next four to six weeks whilst Mari looks set to miss the rest of the season with his injury.
Elsewhere, on a slightly more positive note, Arsenal confirmed that both Granit Xhaka and Sokratis are back in full training.
It was also added that Gabriel Martinelli has sustained a cartilage injury during training on Sunday.
