Liverpool will take on Blackpool in their final warmup friendly of pre-season, with Neil Critchley‘s League One side visiting Anfield for a 3pm kickoff on Saturday.
The Reds have already sealed a 3-0 win over Stuttgart and a 2-2 draw with Salzburg this summer, before drawing 1-1 with Arsenal in a Community Shield tie the Gunners ultimately won on penalties.
But with the Premier League not due to begin until September 12, when Liverpool host Leeds United, the club were eager to organise one more friendly.
Critchley, who left his role as under-23s manager in March, has stepped up to fill the role of opposition, leading Blackpool to Anfield this Saturday, September 5.

Liverpool confirmed the fixture on Wednesday afternoon, with the game to be played behind closed doors at Anfield, and shown live on LFCTV with kickoff at 3pm.
It is the first time the Reds have played Blackpool since 2011, when Charlie Adam was among the scorers as the Tangerines secured a second consecutive 2-1 victory over Roy Hodgson’s side that season.
Blackpool suffered relegation from the Premier League that season, and have since slid further down the Football League pyramid, with Critchley tasked with lifting them back up.
Although there has been a tight turnaround between the two seasons, transfer rumours have been rife, and recently the future of Georginio Wijnaldum has come into doubt.
Wijnaldum has been an important, perhaps even underappreciated, part of Liverpool’s successful side over the past few seasons, helping them to win the Champions League and Premier League. The Dutch midfielder played all but one of Liverpool’s league games last season, starting 35 in total. But the Reds are now being linked with signing Thiago from Bayern Munich, and Wijnaldum is the midfielder many expect he will be replacing, particularly as he has one year remaining on his contract.
In fact, the Dutchman is currently being linked with a move away from Liverpool, with Barcelona leading the race for his signature according to reports. Such a move would allow Wijnaldum to link up with Ronald Koeman, who managed the midfielder for the Netherlands national team and supposedly wants to use him in a pivotal role.
Liverpool and Wijnaldum have been negotiating a new deal for some time now without ever making any real breakthrough. When asked about the player’s future at the end of August, Klopp told reporters: “That’s an open contract situation, obviously, otherwise we would know.
“That means we don’t talk about it, that’s all. I never did, so why should I change it now? That’s all between us and the player, and all these kinds of things.
“It’s all good in the moment, it’s all fine. Gini looked very good in the pre-season, played obviously a couple of good seasons for us, so that’s all I can say about that.”
